Dreamt I could fly

blind
blind

Used steel and recycled concertinaed window blind to make wings to fly.

In this work I have repurposed disposed of off-cuts of discarded concertinaed  blind material that I found in a re-cycling centre. I like the challenge of finding new ways to use discarded materials and finding transformative ways of using them.

With the blind I hand painted it and then threaded long lengths of thin steel bar to give them rigidity so that I could sculpt them into shape and form. For me the finished forms and configurations remind me of fragile insect wings. I place them on a platform and photographed the work. There is an animalistic movement to the forms and a beauty aesthetic which has something of the sublime.
