EMPATHY

'Empathy' expresses how we need to be there for each other and supportive of one another. You can underestimate how much a person needs or how important it is to be needed - the roles change throughout our life journey.

Worked with Bronzecast Foundry in Ormskirk.

CERAMIC NEWS

News on my work with Ceramics.

I have been working on new ceramic work. I attended The Ceramics Congress November 2020 which had ceramics masterclasses which has inspired me to experiment further and explore. Not able to get to studio as often as I would like due to COVID restrictions but really looking forward to getting back and developing new work.

NEW WORK

I am using  Collectors Area to share new ideas and work in development. Not all ideas reach completion and are sometimes shelved whilst other work takes priority. By sharing my ideas it gives you, as a collector, the opportunity to have an insight into my process and also the chance to engage with me if you see a particular strand of work that you would like to commission.

Email me if you would like access to Collectors Area which is password protected.

so that I can slip-casting and test out different glazes.

New work in Bronze whilst in COVID lockdown.

I have been working on getting my sculpture 'Empathy' translated into bronze. 'Empathy' seemed to express how I see we need to be - there for each other and supportive of one another. I am proud to have been selected to exhibit at the Venice Biennial, Art and Architecture hosted by European Cultural Centre. The fifth edition of the biennial architecture exhibition “TIME SPACE EXISTENCE” presents a wide selection of works from architects, photographers, sculptors and universities from all over the world. By combining projects from architecture studios with works of architecture photography and sculpture, the exhibition becomes a dialogue between current developments, ideas and thoughts in art and architecture, highlighting the philosophical concepts of Time, Space and Existence.

I been exploring future technology and how I could use it to expand my practice.  Adding  3D-scanning and 3D-printing  enable exploration of scale and project costing, bringing my ideas from proposal to reality,

The Four Horses

The Four Horses is my response to ‘TIME, SPACE, EXISTENCE’. I often exploit the placement of an artwork, knowing that by responding the site placement can imbue the artwork with extra layers with  meaning and resonate.  Taking inspiration first from The Horses of Saint Mark, a sculpture that has existed in different places over time and found its place in Venice; Originally part of a monument depicting a four horse chariot, the classical roman sculpture was placed on the facade, above the porch of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, after the sack of Constantinople in 1204. They remained there until looted by Napoleon in 1797 but were returned to Venice in 1815. The sculptures are now inside St Mark's for conservation purposes, with replicas in their position on the loggia. My second inspiration is the live chess festival of Marostica that’s existence is based on what may be a fabricated legend where the game of chess was played instead of using weapons, in a battle intelligence, memory and strategic skill. I have combined this research to create a work where I use the four knights of a chess game manipulated, distorted, rearing and straining as those of St Marks to represent a battle. Today the world faces a battle that can not be won with weapons. We have been warned by climate change that without radical action there will be casualties. In 2020 one of those warnings was to Venice and it’s very existence. As with chess, this is a battle that will be won with intelligence and strategy.

‘The Four Horses’ have been 3D printed.

They can be commissioned to choice of size, material and finish. ‘The Four Horses’ exhibition in Venice has been sponsored by THE FLUX REVIEW, V21 Artspace and PURLING London.

Hoping the world is in a better place in 2021.
